Smoke grey is the restrained one. Unlit, the shade reads almost as a dark solid and the fixture behaves like an object rather than a lamp; lit, the grey holds the filament back so you never catch the source directly, even sitting under it.

This is the Velo for rooms that are already doing something — patterned tile, a strong stone, dark cabinetry — where an amber or green shade would be one decision too many. Over a dining table it disappears politely between courses.
